Anime Baka

Anime - Japanese Animation
Baka - Japanese word for idiot or fool

Loosely put an Anime Baka is someone who's crazy about Anime. However interpretation's may vary. I tend to think of Anime Baka as meaning something like drooling fan boy/girl.

Wrote this a long time ago. Too short for an article:
Perverted - Hentai in Japanese. But the word pervert means deviation from normal or accepted. So, how can all guys be perverts?

Did you ever notice that the sex scene in the movie is generally at about the same realative place as the guitar solo in a song?

SonMay Records - are they bootlegs?
2007-12-13

This is quite interesting. I was always told that SonMay Records productions were bootlegs, however I have found internet evidence in more than one place that this is not true.

Ok, there's this thing about Bootleg Anime, it doesn't just include the Anime itself, but tons of other items, CDs, shirts, bags, figures, etc, etc, etc....

There are a couple companies out there making bootleg anime sound tracks and it would appear that SonMay Records is not one of them. From the information I've found ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Son_May ) which I've found reference to elsewhere, SonMay "SM" anime CDs are legit. However they have been imported into the US in defiance of possible licensing laws. The thing is SonMay has and does pay for the rights to press these disks. But the license only applies to SonMay's native country (Taiwan).

So it depends on how you look at it. Personally I feel that if I buy a DVD in the US or have someone buy it for me and then I travel to (or have someone send it) to another country, it should be perfectly legit. Why would it be wrong for me to buy a CD in Taiwan (or have someone buy one for me and send it here)? This is where the whole DVD region coding thing comes up, because the companies want to sell DVDs only to certain places.

So it turns out I don't have a problem with the SM CDs and although their production quality is not on par with the Japanese versions, it seems rather close. And as the rights money goes back to Japan to make the way for more Anime, that makes me happy.

This still leaves a whole lot of illegitimate Pirates out there. EverAnime, f/x (for anime), etc, etc, etc. They are bad for Anime. They steal the ink out of the artist''s pen.

Here is a link to a site that has an in-depth discussion although they incorrectly list SonMay as a bootlegger. I could tell you many of these tips myself, but they went to the trouble of writing them all up. Personally I can almost always buy anime off of ebay without getting bootlegs, but I'm old and wise. Read this article and you'll be a little bit older and a whole lot wiser.
