Anime Baka

Anime - Japanese Animation
Baka - Japanese word for idiot or fool

Loosely put an Anime Baka is someone who's crazy about Anime. However interpretation's may vary. I tend to think of Anime Baka as meaning something like drooling fan boy/girl.

Anime Baka Contact

Wrote this a long time ago. Too short for an article:
Perverted - Hentai in Japanese. But the word pervert means deviation from normal or accepted. So, how can all guys be perverts?

Did you ever notice that the sex scene in the movie is generally at about the same realative place as the guitar solo in a song?

2010-02-05 Space Battleship Yamato Resurrection
They did it, they finally did it "those bastards" (opps that's not what I want to convey). Leji and the owners and the producer have been deadlocked in court for ten years over rights to SBY. I see that there was even a short lived TV show (that crashed and died) a couple years ago. It's no wonder I can be so flippant to Robotech. I have to ask, would I be where I am doing what I'm doing with out the SBY (ie StarBlazers), humm, no I'd probably have a real life although it was actually Science Ninja Team Gatchaman (Battle of the Planets) that got me out of bed to watch at 7AM in 1978. Hmmm, I'd better pick up the unedited ADV release.

Anyway, welcome to: "2010: The Year of Yamato" - Toho Pictures.

The full length animated movie Space Battleship Yamato Resurrection was first shown in Tokyo December 12th. This completely eclipsed my consciousness even with a 1:200 Yamato sitting on the shelf here at work. No doubt there are already bootleg DVDs flooding the market in Singapore and Hong Kong, but they'll be low grade. I don't think any US fansubbers will touch it until the DVD is officially released in Japan within the next few months. I'd expect Live-Evil to jump on it, but there might be a rush, hard to say.

Info and Trailers:

But low and behold that's not all, remember I said about it being the year of Yamato? Well Toho Studios (the wonderful guys who gave us .....Godzilla/Gojira) is currently making a live action feature of the first television series arc. Ohh, I'm so poised to love or hate all this. Here's an appropriate quote from Hideaki Anno creator of Neon Genesis Evangelion (wonder if I've met him): “If not for YAMATO, Japan might not have anime now… YAMATO started it all.”

Here's the full article:

So anyways it will be a bit before we see a fansub version of the movie, but it should cross my radar. I'll be sure to let ya all know and probably even get it to ya somehow. Likewise let me know if you hear something I don't.

Everyone should know about Anime News Network, a website I have been making use of for years.

They have a very comprehensive Encyclopedia of Anime, anime people and anime companies cross indexed. Understandably they do not have information on illegal or semi-legal releases such as fansub, but that information is available elsewhere. The whole fansub issue is very complex and has both lead to the proliferation of anime in the US and the current anime company depression in the US.

Here are some good ANN links for Space Battleship Yamato and related:

Here's a link to Live Evil, they have fansubbed the Harlock Television and many other Leji Matsumoto works:

One thing I recently realized was that I have never ever read an actual Leji Matsumto manga. I did some brief searching, but couldn't find anything. It strikes me as a little odd that his Animes are so popular but yet his actual writings appear to be rare in the West.
