Anime Baka

Anime - Japanese Animation
Baka - Japanese word for idiot or fool

Loosely put an Anime Baka is someone who's crazy about Anime. However interpretation's may vary. I tend to think of Anime Baka as meaning something like drooling fan boy/girl.

Wrote this a long time ago. Too short for an article:
Perverted - Hentai in Japanese. But the word pervert means deviation from normal or accepted. So, how can all guys be perverts?

Did you ever notice that the sex scene in the movie is generally at about the same realative place as the guitar solo in a song?

TV - Firefly TV Series
2007-07-04

Firefly is a TV series by Joss Whedon who gave us Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel. It was a great show and did terrible and was canceled after one season, probably because it was too intelligent. It has a large following among the slightly geeky croud (Star Trek, etc). My wife and I were lent the DVDs by a friend and ate it up. We now have our own set and a little hallmark style ornament of the spaceship. We're not really trekies, but both of us did love the old Star Trek and caught little bits of the others that came since.

It's the story of a group of Grey Hat smugglers who wander across the universe trying to stay alive and make money. It has a western theme, which goes along with many of the worlds, which are new settlements with various groups escaping persecution or just wanting to do their own thing. There is a dark empire that is shiny and bright and sort of evil and crushed an army of rebels who tried to oppose them (and which many of the crew are former soldiers of) a couple years back.

Central to the plot is a young woman who the crew adopts because her brother is a doctor and they could really use one. She was kidnapped by the government and experimented on; her brother has since stole her back. She has bouts of sanity between her usual dementia and seems to hold some dark secret for which they are constantly escaping the pursuit of the said semi-evil government.

There is a movie that helps close up the story: Serenity (named after the ship, which is named after the place where the last battle of the rebels happened). Amazingly they managed to get the entire original cast for the movie. Everyone from the cast really loved the story and wanted to be a art of it. The movie is essentially a long well done episode and I am not ure how well it would stand without the series, but it is the wonderful emotional battle that brings closure and ties up many of the plot twists.

It's a short 14 one-hour episode series with a movie at the end. I'd recommend it to anyone who vaguely likes sci-fi and probably other people also. I can see us watching it again every so often.
